Music Video Analsis- Huseen

Jessie J- Wild

The music video didn’t really have a narrative but it had the singers in the video throughout. This was quite effective because it kept the audience engaged as they were watching what were likely to be their favourite singer.

The song takes quite long to start and in that time Jessie J is walking down taking her top off. This made me think that the target audience ranged from 16-25 rather than for young teenagers. This was because the way Jessie J wasn’t wearing much so it made me think that the target audience wasn’t suitable for young kids. Because it was Jessie j walking down, it kept the audience engaged with the music video whereas if it was a random actor chosen by the director, then the audience wouldn’t want to watch the video as they will think the music video doesn't appeal to them.

The video was mainly black and white and had nearly no colour at all. For example in this particular shot it there isn’t any colour which made the audience curious compared to if it was in colour focus on jessie j. This made the outcome of the video very successful as it created a buzzing and energetic atmosphere to keep the audience engaged with the piece and enjoy it. This was because people think off black/white as boring and not very lively therefore Jessie j dancing gave a contrast and made the video very interesting and 'wild'. Also as the target audience are young people it will appeal to them a lot because the dancing culture is really popular at the moment.

The lighting in the video is very important and makes the audience think and feel differently. There is a bright light shining on Jessie J which makes the audience think that she is very important and has a high status; it makes the audience focus on her as the lighting is very bright on her. furthermore the colours in the background are all white therefore making her shine brighter than the background make her stand out; this is so the audience can get engaged into her dancing. This connotes that the director has done this to be unique compared to other music video, also to stand out. Also the way that the director staged it and the props/costumes used in the video were suitable. Jessie J is really reveilling in this video, stereotypically men are attracted to naked/reveilling women, therefore it will attract a broader target audience.

In this shot I can denote that it goes from Jessie J dancing energertically to B.I.G Sean who changes the loud buzzing atmosphere to a more relaxed atmosphere but still keeps a bit of the energy. The director has done this because he wants the audience to feel differently and see the difference
between the two artists, as jessie J is singing  whereas B.I.G Sean raps fast; the tune and beat changes as well which prevents the audience from getting bored from the same beat. So he changes musicians so that people who don't really enjoy Jessie J’s type of music can get a different style. Also, people who are a fan of B.I.G Sean or Dizzie Rascal will want to watch the music videos as it has their favourite musician in the video. The director has chosen to do this because the people that watched the video will tell their friends/family about it which will help the video get more views.

Overall, I think that the music video was constructed very well by the director. The way he made the artists enter, and the range of movements, the upbeat music all contributed to the success of the video. These made the video very intriguing and kept the audience curious and want to find out what’s going to happen as the video progresses.
